Configuring A 991.2 911 GT3 RS Including Detail
The new 991.2 GT3 RS is an amazing car and has subtle updates that make it potentially the coolest GT3 RS ever! The real question is how would you configure your 991.2 GT3 RS? The base MSRP is $187,500.00 and quickly goes up as you spec the car out with all the options you inevitably must have! When we finished our spec, the price was a whopping $230,720.00 and that doesn’t include the $3,000 plus detail that you know we would obsess over for at least a week! But what else would you expect from Status Detail? Let’s jump into some more info on the car, our spec, and the details of the bespoke detail!
991.2 GT3 RS Just The Facts
- 4.0-litre displacement, six-cylinder horizontally opposed engine, 383 kW (520 hp) power output, 470 Nm torque, 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, top speed: 312 km/h.
- Performance-oriented 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) with close-ratioed gearing for crisp shifting, short shift times and PDK SPORT mode for extremely dynamic gear changes.
- The roof is made of magnesium and, like the front lid, is purposefully contoured. Not only does this contouring visually distinguish these lightweight components, it also increases their stiffness.
- The NACA air intakes on the CFRP front lid are new. These are used to supply air to the brakes and that’s without negatively affecting the drag coefficient. Their shape was developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), the precursor to NASA. Space technology – for supreme performance in absolute proximity to the ground.
- Weissach package: Every gramme counts, and so does every detail. For this reason, the ultra-light gearshift paddles and the steering wheel trim are in carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) with a carbon-weave finish. In their search for further weight savings, our vehicle developers have even made the carpet trim lighter.
- Base MSRP: $187,500.00
Configuring in Chalk…
I could tell you with confidence that I want my 991.2 GT3 RS in Chalk… but I’d be a liar. I have no clue what color I would select and it’s a serious problem! Chalk, Lava Orange, Miami Blue and Lizard Green are all basically the coolest colors ever for a Porsche. Not to mention the sky is the limit with paint to sample options! My head hurts now and I’ll need a nap to recover and about 6 months to figure this out! All kidding aside but mostly not kidding… Lava Orange is great but I feel like it’s the most picked option, thus dropping it from the running. A Chalk GT3 RS is pretty rare from my perspective and so is Lizard Green. The green is kind of a growing McLaren thing however and the random person on the street might think it’s a McLaren….. can’t have that! Miami Blue is a beautiful color and my affinity for Chalk makes it a front runner. Paint to sample would always remain an option too though.

Detailing a 911.2 GT3 RS
We went pretty in depth with our McLaren Senna Bespoke Detail post. Check that out here to better understand this quicker review of how we would dial in our new GT3 RS! The Bespoke Status Detail is an uncompromising automotive detail that was designed for brand new cars but is also certainly meant for a 20 year old exotics as well. Every new car, no matter how expensive, made by man or automated manufacturing lines, will leave a factory with imperfections in the exterior paint and light marring or scratching on things like carbon fiber seats and trim in the interior. This is common and simply requires a high line detailer to fix. This is not something you ask a dealer to fix as they will make it worse or fix it the wrong way 9 times out of 10. This too is not really the dealership’s fault. They are not a detail shop.
The Bespoke Detail is how I do my own personal cars and is how I advise anyone with the financial capability to detail their cars even when brand new. We polish everything we can get a polisher on. All exterior surfaces and interior surfaces that have clear coat or gel coat and can benefit from further refinement will be polished then a followed up Jeweling polish stage for the ultimate in gloss.
Ceramic Coating For Interior
When the polishing stage is finished we move to ceramic coatings. Like most super cars, the new GT3 RS has a hybrid of carbon fiber, alcantara, and leather in it’s interior. This is a combination of surfaces that will absorb liquids In the case of alcantara. leather can rip if too dry or abrasives wear it down, and carbon fiber is clear coated and can get scratches just like the exterior paint scratches. Companies like Gyeon and Gtechniq both makes coatings that are specifically designed for all three surfaces! Leather coatings keep water, heat, UV rays, and abbrasive dirt from wearing it down. Fabric coatings for alcantara do the same thing but mostly keep water from damaging the fibers. Coating interior carbon fiber is the exact same coating we use on exterior paint. It has the same scratch resistance and added gloss too! Fabric coatings will go on all the carpets as well. A fully coated interior makes maintenance cleaning easy and will ensure the interior looks new essentially forever with proper up keep.
Ceramic Coating for Exterior
Coating the exterior surfaces is the most important part of the detail to us. Ceramic coatings add more gloss to the already glossy polished paint. It will add scratch resistance that will greatly help eliminate wash marring and scratches. Chemical resistance is boosted as well, meaning things like bird droppings and tree sap won’t etch into your paint as quickly and ruin your paint! Our favorite part is the insane water beading! A car like this would get a dual layer coating. The bottom layer is the main protection while the top coat adds more protection, but mostly adds insane water beading characteristics. A dual layer coating will give a water contact angel of 120 degrees! It will seem like the water is almost floating on the paint and flies off effortlessly when blown dry with a leaf blower. Because the water beads off so fast it creates a self cleaning effect. For example, say the car is a bit dirty and it is raining out. While you drive, the water will bead up and encapsulate the dirt. If you drive over 35-40 mph the beads will start to fly off the car and actually start cleaning the car a little! Glass gets coated as well. The biggest benefit to this is increased visibility in the rain. We opted for the $9,210 carbon ceramic brakes and cleaning the dirt off the wheels will be a breeze when coated! Check out our post on why ceramic coating wheels is a no brainier when you have carbon brakes.
The Drivers Porsche
Ultimately I would drive a GT3 RS very often! It would see rain and dirt and corrosive things that will inevitably get onto the paint. The only way to not keep it in the garage in a bubble and scared to drive it, is to ceramic coat all the surfaces! Depending on track use and amount of highway driving you do, clear bra could be an option. Xpel and Suntek make great products for people seeking clear bra applications. I personally want my paint to look as good as it can. I would not sacrifice paint clarity or the way the exterior surfaces feels and reacts to certain contamination. To me, real paint with ceramic on it is the current pinnacle for a dialed-in perfect car. Having said that, if I had the itch to drive a car like this on the track often or had easy access to a near by track, I would probably clear bra for track season. But knowing my current situation, It would rarely see track time and stay ceramic only.
